Cuticle care

naturaltip.psdWhat are cuticles?

The Cuticle is the narrow band of skin that surrounds the nail attached to your finger and protects the root of the nail  from bacteria.  It’s essential to keep your cuticles moisturised as they’re supposed to be soft!  The nail grows at three millimetres per month, so keeping the cuticle soft it will help stimulate good nail growth.

Some people advocate cutting the cuticles but be WARNED; cutting the cuticle can make you susceptible to skin irritations and infections and can actually lead to harsher and tougher cuticles.  Instead of cutting your cuticles they should simply be pushed back using the rounded end of a wooden cuticle stick.

Here’s how

Firstly wash your hands in warm soapy water and pat dry.  Apply cuticle oil  generously to the nail and cuticle area, massaging in until it’s fully absorbed. Using the angled section of the stick against the nail surface,  gently work around the base of the nail, pushing back the cuticle skin.    Always use a wooden Orange stick as this is much gentler on the nail as opposed to a harsh metal pushers. Once this is tucked away you can begin your manicure.

Do not overlook the importance of preparing your cuticles beforehand to create the best possible manicure. Tending to your cuticles will expose more of  the nail area so that you can paint closer to the nail edge sand also help achieve a longer lasting manicure finish.

Handy Tip

A dab of cuticle oil applied a few minutes after painting your nail will also help speed up the drying process.

Make it a routine, keep a bottle of Finga-nail cuticle oil by your bedside and apply before retiring to keep your cuticles soft and healthy.
